Question about MGS2

How was Solidus able to be president when he looks like Big Boss, Snake, etc...someone out there must know that face.

Also, when Jack met Snake in MGS2, how come he didn't think "wow that Navy Seal looks a lot like George Sears!"

Even if he didn't remember Solidus, wouldn't he know what a former president looks like? The facial hair part is interesting, but don't all these guys basically have the same face? I know Snake isn't a perfect clone of BB, however, BB in MGS3 looked alot like Snake. When George Sears ran for office, wouldn't some people have thought he looks like solid snake/BB?

Maybe he didn't have the facial hair when he was in office. Who knows.

When he was in office he had glasses and no facial hair as far as I remember. Sure some people probably thought he looked like Big Boss but people look a lot like other people. Some even say that everybody has a doppleganger somewhere in the world. Also as mentioned people look different without facial hair. Either way people would never figure out that he was a clone of Big Boss since the whole idea of cloning a human is proposterous as far as the general public is concerned. Raiden definitely wouldn't have recognised him though since his memory of their history had been wiped.

Edit: Actually he appears to have had a moustache during his time in office. To me Solid Snake looked a lot different with a moustache so I'd assume that Solidus looked different to Big Boss with one too.

It's difficult to tell how he looked in those pictures, but I will go with you on that.

I know it may not be directly relevant to this discussion, but my feeling is that Big Boss is NOT famous enough to be known by the in-game general public. An example is that he is still a nobody in 1974 when he was calling the DCI at NORAD to stop the launch. This is because Operation Snake Eater and the award of the title Big Boss "was classified top secret, only a handful of people know about it". In addition, FOXHOUND is an under-cover unit, so Big Boss wont become famous because of that either. The only occasions I can remember any Snakes because publicly known is 1) Solid Snake in [In the Darkness of Shadow Mossess] and that Cypher photo of him on the tanker and 2) Solidus after his death at the Federal Hall. Prior to these occasions, I think the Snakes are mostly just like any common soldiers.

As to why Raiden can't recognize Solidus, I forgot the details but the game explained it somehow when he woke up naked during his captivity.

All very good points, what triggered this thought is when I finally got around to watching the MGS2 graphic novel and Jack mentions that Snake looks familiar, that combined with Solidus Snake at one point having his face everywhere from being President made me wonder why no one recognizes these guys especially since they all are nearly identical. Anyway, thanks for the answers!

A correction - I should add that all Snakes except Solidus during his presidency were not a publicly known person (although Ocelot said during TPP's trailer that Big Boss was fairly well known in the world of black-ops, but I personally think that is not comparable to what George Sears have). So it should not be too surprising that no one recognize Pliskin as a look-alike to George Sears.

All of these are important. But how come no one I've seen has even mentioned that Jack and Rose, ARE THE PROTAGINISTS OF TITANIC!
