Theory Regarding Huey Emmerich and Dr, Pettrovich Madnar, The Missing Link Between Metal Gear

Ever since the development of fully bipedal Metal Gear in Peace Walker, especially when it comes to Big Boss having control of what is esecntially a REX in the form of ZEKE. Since the plot of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is about preventing Big Boss from getting Metal Gear technology why is no one concerned? Additionally Metal Gear 1 gives Dr. Drago Pettrovich Madnar the honor of having created the technology that allows a bipedal machine to walk about without stubling about like a drunk baby. This of course is controdicted by Peace Walker by having Huey Emmerich developed Metal Gear that can walk, decades before the so called "Father of Robotics".

Unless, and here is my theory: Huey Emmerich is Dr. Madnar.

Here is my evidence: In the latest trailers for The Phantom Pain Huey is seen waring a pair of assistent legs that allow the crippled man to walk around. Dr. Madnar is said to have created "Powered Gear" technology that allows for bipedal machine for medical reasons, to give the ability to walk back to those who have lost it. It is shown in Metal Gear 1 that Madnar built a man sized machine using said technology, the Terminator rip-off: TX-11. The TX-11 of course shares its code name with the "first" Metal Gear, the TX-55.

Back to the same Phantom Pain trailer where Huey is being tortured by Revolver Ocelt and Miller/Campell (if you are one of those people). Presumably Miller is still tight with Big Boss up until this point and Revolver is also scene in this trailer helping Big Boss, so this interigation is probably being carried out with the very least his knowledge, if not under his orders. Why? This is likely after the nine year comma, a lot can happen in that amount of time (purhapse a child with Strangelove? - but that is beside the point). He survives or escapes from his captors. Huey has made an enemy of Big Boss for some reason, maybe he doesn't want to build death machine anymore, much like his son would later declare. So Huey goes into hiding, the Cold War is still going on so the best way to hide from Americans, even those with armies without boarders, is by defecting to Russia. Boom - Huey Emmerich changes his name to Drago Pettrovich Madnar but keeps the Doctor title.

Then years latter when Big Boss needs another Metal Gear built, this time in a little African country called Outer Heaven he gets his old buddy Huey/Drago to do it for him.

TL:DR: Huey Emmerich is Drago Petrovich Madnar. Discuss?

I think something to consider is that the original promos for Peace Walker spoke of the events in Central America and MSF's involvement as being classified information, making that entire operation uknown to anyone who wasn't directly involved. Huey was never mentioned being involved with bipedal technology before the revelations of Peace Walker and it could be likely that he wasn't able to make his name known for such work outside of MSF and Cypher since the power struggle between those two entities were mostly underground before the Outer Heaven uprising.

We can gather from the red band trailer that Huey's loyalty to MSF might've been seen as questionable. Being who is arguably the person most vital to ZEKE's technology, Big Boss would be incapable of producing Metal Gear technology. If Huey stops working with him, BIg Boss would be forced to find someone else who is capable of producing said tech (perhaps Dr. Madnar, in this case). There is very much a possibility the Huey abandon's BIg Boss as an ally (hell, we all know Miller eventually does just that).

OP Here. With reguards to Huey's death, purhapse his death was faked to escape from America and defect? But maybe these events don't fit the time line and I'm just grasping at straws.

@50.186.50.212 Your second statement is the exact thought that lead me down my own rabbit hole of combing the two characters.

@Bluerock. The only problem with him borrowing the technology would be that it seems to have been developed somewhere around 1995, years before even ZEKE was developed.

You mean years after, right? ZEKE was developed around 1974. The original TX-55 Metal Gear was created in 1995, but the technology behind it could already have been developed at that point.

Perhaps they could retcon Huey as having "borrowed" Madnar's powered gear technology, in order to bring Aleksandr Granin's Metal Gear to life as Peace Walker. Madnar could then remain the "father of robotics" and an originator of the first functional bipedal Metal Gears (with the character regaining some of his former glory, which has since been usurped by the more recent MGS characters).

Your right but it could be the other way around. Mandar could of stole Huey's ideas/plans and just like 50.186.50.212 said, the whole war with Cypher/The Patriots was an underground war so unless you were directly involved you never knew about what was going on. So maybe Huey created it before then but then it got lost in time/destroyed in fighting and he lost the plans to make them and eventually mandar makes the same discovery Huey made decades ago but this time its public and so he becomes "the father of modern robotics" or he simply stole the plans to Huey. Who am i kidding Kojima will probably come up with some weird/crazy plot twist to sort this one out.

Gotta love those Metal Gear plot twists(They're some of the best parts about playing Metal Gear games)

Maybe, but if its not a major plot point to the upcoming games, it will likely remain unexplained. Kojima himself has admitted to sometimes forgetting the chronology of events across the whole series (it has been over 25 years since MG1 after all), and has previously said that new events in MGSV may not completely mesh with the old games. Anyway, I think Huey acquiring the plans from Madnar makes most sense, as it fits with his established history, having already borrowed and adapted various Soviet designs from Granin and Sokolov.

OP Here: If it is true that even Kojima can't keep all this straight (wonder if he ever visits the wiki?) purhapse it would be fortuitous for the new LA studio to remake MG1/MG2 as a propper MGS game to bring them back into line with retcon'd canon? If this really is Kojima's last game for realzi-realz this time it could be worth while trainning, similar to how Microsoft had 343 remake Halo 1 before developing Halo 4.

Another grasp at straws: Drago's daughter's name is Ellen, Huey's is Emma. Likes to give girls names starting with E?

Maybe we should just forget about the little details of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 and just wait for the remake that will straighten out all the canon kinks and bring the story in line.

What if Huey was actually not dead? When he drowned himself, maybe he actually faked his death for some unknown pupose and may possibly appear in a future game?

Emma isn't Huey's biologigal daugther, but his step daughter from his second wife's earlier marriage and therefore Huey is not the one who named her. Also the afforementioned second wife or Huey himself are not mentioned to have had any other children beside Hal and Emma, making it pretty impossible for Huey to be father of Ellen as she is more than likely older than Otacon.

I'd also assume Huey's death would have taken place during the time gap between Metal Gear 1 and 2 (as the reason behind his suicide was the affair between his wife and son while latter was at his late teens) and therefore it would have been impossible for him neither to be in Metal Gear 2 or pose as Madnar in the first place as he was living in America with his family at the time of his death and all of them having the last name Emmerich (that being both Hal and Emma's last name).

Eh, Peace Walker and 5 just screw up the backstory to the series...
