May be Sorrow would've known that Big Boss is his son. That's why he appears as an apparition near Naked snake and not cared a bit hell for Ocelot.
In all fairness, though, they DID intend to have the Sorrow accompany Ocelot during Volgin's battle, but it got changed to his accompanying The Boss instead.
I'm doubtful that The Sorrow was Big Boss's father, though, as it really doesn't match up at all with the facts stated in MGS3 and Peace Walker, or even Pre-E3 2013. For starters, in Snake Eater, it was established that Naked Snake was a Korean War veteran and a Green Beret. Considering that The Boss gave birth to her child during the invasion of Normandy (June 1944), that would mean Big Boss would have participated in the Korean War when he was barely even nine at the oldest, not to mention he would be nineteen during Operation Snake Eater, which would mean Big Boss would be an illegal soldier. Probably the biggest problem with this theory, however, is that both Zadornov and even either Hideo Kojima or Kiefer Sutherland pretty much stated that Big Boss was born roughly a decade before that period. Specifically, Zadornov when about to gun down Big Boss in cold blood and remarking on the irony that Big Boss was to meet the same fate as Che Guevara down to the smallest detail, explicitly stated that Big Boss was 39 years old at that time of the events of that game, and either Kojima or Sutherland stated that Big Boss during TPP would have been 49 years old at the time.
