"A Soul Can't Be Cut" is the action theme for chapter R-05 and R-07 (Escape from Denver and Assassination Attempt, respectively) from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
"A Soul Can't Be Cut" can be considered a way of saying that we cannot suppress our more primal essence. In-game, it's a clear reference to Raiden when he becomes "Jack the Ripper" after the fight with Monsoon, having awakened his true nature: an unrepentant killer.
Prior to its appearance in the main game, it was used for various promotional spots for the game, specifically the English Boss Trailer, the Jack The Ripper trailer's gameplay sequences, and the MGS4 Raiden segment of the DLC promotional skins trailer.
Track 14 from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Vocal Tracks contains a "DLC Version" of this song, used in Jetstream Sam DLC. It's the same, the lyrics are identical except which includes a new mix vocal effect on the pronunciation.
Have you ever slashed a soul to ribbons?
Have you ever believed in a mirage?
My ears are ringing with a sound
Feel the vibrations – my hearts starts to pound (pound, pound)
Give in to darkness, bodies melt
How do we play the cards we’ve been dealt (dealt, dealt)
Beauty – it’s humanity’s greatest sin
Beauty – hiding the beast that lies within
For all our righteous crimes we compensate
But as for me it’s far too late
I can’t deny the voices inside my brain
It’s not a dream – we’re one and the same
You should know that a soul can’t be cut
(Can’t be cut)
No matter what blade you wield
If you follow your own path to justice
(Path to justice)
The brutal truth will be revealed
The sound’s getting louder
And louder and louder
And louder and louder
You should know
