|"Hmm, I don't remember that one. It mustn't be that important." |
This article is about a subject from outside Hideo Kojima's core "Metal Gear Saga." It has some level of canonicity within the continuity, but reader discretion is advised.[?]
Battle Points (BP) was the currency that Raiden earned during World Marshal Incidents. It allowed him to purchase upgrades and equipment.
It appeared that the Battle Point system was an invention of Doktor, who was authorized to gave Raiden upgrades and equipment in exchange for his activities. The system appeared to ultimately be based on the Drebin Points system previously used by Drebin 893 to reward Solid Snake during the Guns of the Patriots Incident.
Behind the scenes
Battle Points are the currency earned in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It is used to purchase upgrades and equipment in the game's customization menu.
Battle Points are gained for general combat performance, locating pickups, and for scoring highly in ranked battles. BP thus gained can be spent in the Customisation store at any time, with Raiden being returned to the last checkpoint upon exiting.
Ranked battles are judged by the following criteria:
- Longest Combo
The goals for each rank vary according to the battle; each criteria is usually worth up to +1000 BP, though this is higher for boss fights. Fixed bonuses are awarded in addition for taking no damage and completing the battle with no kills. The sum total determines the ranking for that battle.
The full stage ranking is the sum total of ranked battles, with additional points awarded for BP, Zandatsu and kills outside of ranked battles. Time outside of ranked battles does not appear to be counted.
It is possible to get a no-damage BP bonus for every stage except R-00, where it is currently thought to be impossible to avoid damage from Jetstream Sam after Raiden loses his arm. It is extremely hard to get the bonus on R-03 due to the sequence at the end, and most no-damage runs use a convoluted trick involving pushing a large number of fire extinguishers to the final area before triggering the battle and slashing them to hide Raiden's position.
BP can also be gained by completing VR challenge missions, and bonuses are awarded for beating each of the set level times.
A BP bonus is also issued when the player managed to remove a left arm.
