In 1984, several types of combat mechs were developed and used by Diamond Dogs in their operations.
Design
Though in some ways similar to a Metal Gear, they were smaller and designed to accommodate a single exposed human pilot.
Types
- One with a moving electronic "headpiece", this version had no armor to protect the pilot and an extendable "arm" fitted with an assault rifle. could also be modified to have an extendable grasping arm.
- One with an armor plating with a viewing slot to protect the pilot from the front, armed with a heavy machine gun in front.
Behind the scenes
These mechs were first seen in the E3 2013 trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and later in the first Metal Gear Online 3 trailer. They resemble the later Metal Gear Mk. II.
A screenshot posted to Hideo Kojima's Twitter revealed that at least one type of combat mech can be piloted in the single player portion of The Phantom Pain while the player is on a mission.[1]
