Had this when I was looking up Tolstoy, but within the Metal Gear universe and thematics the Boss could be interpreted as at least very similar to a religious figure and idol? For example something like Jesus Christ, setting up to be betrayed by their follower and killed as a result, wildly different interpretations and conflicts between them (Big Boss and the Patriots) in her name, one group of followrs using her beliefs and corrupting them as to rule the world under one will (deifnitely the Catholic Church by the middles ages, the Patriots in metal gear), the one who betrayed them becoming dead in a sense (Judas hanging himself, Big Boss metaphorically with carrying the guilt and going deeper into the darkness, feeling he died with the Boss), even a potter's field (literally with Judas, in a symbolic sense with Arlignton and Boss and Big Boss's graves). Come to think of it,I tihnk this is brought up in the MGS4 novelization. I don't know, i'm just freethinking at this point.
