A bucket or pail is typically a watertight, vertical cylinder or truncated cone, with an open top and a flat bottom, attached to a semicircular carrying handle. It is commonly used to transport fluids or objects by hand for utility work.
Usage[]
Buckets have been used to carry many different substances for a variety of purposes.
Water[]
Water can be carried in buckets for cleaning and retention purposes, such as the metal ones used for the bathrooms in the fortress of Zanzibar Land. The Militaires Sans Frontières utilized several buckets within their Barranquilla Coast Camp cabin, largely due to the cabin having leaks that cause rain to drop in during torrential storms.
Water buckets can also be used to douse objects or people. A more nefarious purpose for this is the dousing of interrogation subjects, an example of which is to increase the conductivity of electric shock administration. Such use was employed by Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin in Groznyj Grad, Tselinoyarsk, and Strangelove in Costa Rica, with Naked Snake being the victim on both occasions. On Diamond Dogs' Mother Base, Ocelot used a bucket to throw water on Huey Emmerich to roust him for interrogation upon the latter's arrival at Mother Base, and later on, Kazuhira Miller used a bucket to throw salt water over Quiet, a parasite therapy subject whose skin burned when exposed to high sodium levels.
Loose material[]
A bucket is often more practical for carrying loose material than doing so by hand. Child soldiers of the Mbele Squad possessed a bucket of diamonds while imprisoned in the Kungenga Mine, Central Africa, although it was partially destroyed by gunfire from Venom Snake in order to fake their deaths.
Behind the scenes[]
The Bucket is an item featured in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake that can be used to hide from enemy soldiers, similar to the Cardboard Box. It is located in the men's bathroom on the fourth floor of the Zanzibar Building.
- "A metal bucket used for cleaning bathrooms, Looks pretty solid. Its use is unknown."
- ―Bucket description in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
If Venom Snake goes too long without showering in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Ocelot will toss a bucket of water on him, upon his return to Mother Base. However, Quiet will prevent this if she and Snake share a high enough bond, in favor of taking a shower together.
Buckets are procurable items in Metal Gear Survive, where they grant the player with some Iron building materials.
