MGO Urban Ultimatum catapult

A soldier prepares to catapult himself through the air in order to reach his target.

A catapult is a device used to throw or hurl an object a great distance without need of explosives. It was often used during ancient times, although they largely fell out of large-scale military use after World War I outside of launching aircraft.

Eventually, the catapult technology entered full use. During the Guns of the Patriots Incident in 2014, the FROGS utilized catapults to launch their operatives high up onto rooftops when attacking a building, as demonstrated during their mission into the Middle East.

During their fight with Outer Haven, the USS Missouri also utilized catapults to launch Solid Snake, Johnny Sasaki, and Meryl Silverburgh onto Outer Haven, supplied to them by Drebin 893 after Liquid hijacked the SOP system and planned to launch a nuke into JD with Metal Gear REX's rail gun. However, of the three, only Snake was even remotely close to the target landing area and able to continue to the destination, as Johnny ended up landing on the side of the hull and falling into the ocean, and Meryl ended up missing the mark and injuring her ankle upon landing in a different part of the ship.

An on board, rocket-propelled catapult installed on the MQ-133C aircraft was utilized to insert Maverick agent Raiden into Sukhumi, Abkhazia in order to quell a military coup instigated by European extremist Andrey Dolzaev, of which the PMC Desperado Enforcement LLC. was involved in. This method was used because the craft did not possess stealth camouflage, and thus was unable to insert Raiden into the Desperado-controlled capital directly via landing.
