Doritos is a brand of seasoned tortilla chips owned by the American company Frito-Lays and originating in America. Originally made in 1964, it was eventually sold nation-wide in 1966. It was eventually sold internationally, with the Japanese getting their version in 1987 alongside 20 flavors, including Fish Taco by the 2000s.
Relation to the Metal Gear series
The Fish Taco-flavored Doritos, alongside AXE Body Spray, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Bon Curry, and magazines from Weekly Famitsu, Dengeki PlayStation, Dengeki Games, and Weekly Shōnen Magazine in the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker as a joke on product placement. In the overseas versions, Doritos was replaced by the tortilla chips. In addition, supplemental materials such as a DLC T-shirt advertising Doritos and a briefing file covering Doritos were cut from the overseas versions altogether, presumably for the same reason why Doritos itself was replaced. The item description mentions their national distribution release date in America, while the Model Viewer description for the item references the brand's Japanese release date.
