A drill instructor was a member of the mercenary group Militaires Sans Frontières in the 1970s. He conducted various exercises as part of MSF's training regimen, including the teaching of CQC techniques. As expected of his position, he was loud, quick, and sharp with the trainees, sometimes sarcastically suggesting that they kill themselves immediately if they couldn't use basic enemy evasion tactics.[1] Like the other members of MSF, the instructor held great respect for the abilities of their commander, Big Boss.[2][3]

In November 1974, the instructor conducted a training exercise at the MSF's Colombian camp, where Big Boss joined the trainees in their session.

Behind the scenes[]

The drill instructor appears in the opening prologue of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Concept art in the Peace Walker Official Art Works book shows a heart tattoo on his left arm, with the words "Love of country," while wearing a T-shirt that says "Army."
