Fatman is character who appeared in Metal Gear Solid 2. He is a highly trained expert in creating bombs, and was a member of Dead Cell.

[edit] Early Life
Very little is known about Fatman's early life, but it is known that he single handedly built an atomic bomb when he was ten years old. At some point later in his life, Fatman was trained by former NYPD Bomb Squad expert Peter Stillman. Stillman had passed on all his knowledge to Fatman, hoping that he would use it to help others and aid society in general. Stillman treated Fatman like his own son. Fatman also talked about "hanging around department store clock counters" and that "life is short", revealing his obsession with time, which led to his obsession with becoming the "greatest bomb maker in history".

Fatman joined Dead Cell as their bomb expert, and helped construct bombs that were used to simulate terrorist attacks to train the Marine Corps and other government organizations. Fatman lent his hand in the taking over of Big Shell when Dead Cell went renegade and joined the Sons of Liberty. He planted a series of bombs on each of Big Shell's struts, which were used to distract anyone trying to dismantle the main bombs in the core sections of Big Shell. After hearing of Fatman's defection, Stillman assists Raiden by Codec, in order to give advice on dismantling the bombs, but also because of the guilt he feels for seeing the destruction being caused by his teachings. Raiden is able to dismantle most of the planted bombs, but the last one is detonated, and Peter Stillman is killed in the explosion. Fatman is then confronted by Raiden atop the roof of Big Shell, and after a long battle, is beaten by him. As Fatman lay dying, he provides one last obstacle for Raiden to overcome, telling him that he's activated one final bomb which is nearby, and that if Raiden doesn't disable it, he will be killed by the resulting explosion. Fatman then tells Raiden, that he will be remembered as a "legend" (possible reason for this being, that he killed his own mentor, Stillman, known around the world as a legend in the bomb disposal field). His last words are "laugh, and grow fat". Raiden found that Fatman has placed the bomb on his own body.
Later, Ocelot reveals that Fatman was actually working for The Patriots, testing Raiden's abilities. The reason Fatman helped the Patriots was that he was given the oppurtunity to kill Peter Stillman, thus making him a "legend" in his own mind.
