Cafetal Aroma Encantado

Cafetal Aroma Encantado ("Enchanting Coffee Aroma") was a coffee factory around Volcán Irazú, Costa Rica. In 1974, Naked Snake passed through this area during the Peace Walker Incident while tracking down enemy trucks carrying nuclear weapons.

History[]

Cafetal Aroma Encantado was once a famous coffee factory, though it later became a front for a drug purification plant, which the Sandinista National Liberation Front used to ship narcotics to the United States. The FSLN was provided with the plant by the KGB, in order to help fund their socialist revolution in neighboring Nicaragua. Afterwards, the CIA mercenary group Peace Sentinel took it over and continued production and purification of the drugs, as the FSLN had before them.

Peace Walker Incident[]

After their commander Naked Snake obtained intel about Peace Sentinel's transport routes, the Militaires Sans Frontières traveled through the plant to reach El Cadalso, evading detection by soldiers on both the ground and upper catwalks.^[1] After failing to stop the transport of the drugs, as well as being cut off from their intended route, they traveled back to the plant to reach a shortcut into Aldea de los Despiertos.

The MSF later carried out operations in Cafetal Aroma Encantado, including: capturing and recruiting several Peace Sentinel soldiers; demolishing an enemy supply package; procuring classified documents; defending key supplies from sabotage by Peace Sentinel; and retrieving items from a near-dead MSF unit.

Pursue the Jungle Train[]

"Miller: Snake, according to Chico, the nuclear materials will be loaded from a train and on to a truck at a rail terminal near the eastern foot of Irazú. If we can't cut 'em off at that terminal, we'll be in a world of hurt. Hurry, Snake!"

Snake must make his way through Camino de Lava, while attempting to avoid a scout with a sniper rifle and patrolmen at the junction of Camino de Lava. Then Snake must proceed to Cafetal Aroma Encantado and avoid patrolmen on high level walkways at the entrance that are inaccessible to the player, as well as proceeding through the mill and finally El Cadalso and neutralize several patrolmen who are armed with RK-47's (AK-47s).
