The original music was composed by the KONAMI KuKeiHa CLUB and the CD was by Konami released on April 5, 1991 under the catalog number KICA-7501. Aside from the soundtrack, it also bundled with a sticker sheet featuring the game’s logo, Metal Gear D and the FOXHOUND emblem. It also included liner notes made by Hideo Kojima (who used the alias of "Snake Kojima"), Piston Uehara, Monkey Oka, Madamuyan Fukui, Ikachan, Shoulder Nishio, Cocotte Yabu, and Akababa Akada that gave some commentary of the game's development, including some cut concepts such as Maniac Cop.[1]

The soundtrack was re-released on September 23, 1998 as part of the 2-CD bundle titled Konami MSX Super Best Antiques, which also included the Gofer no Yabou Episode 2 and Space Manbow albums.

Legacy[]

Arranged music based on Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was used for the VR Training disc in Metal Gear Solid: Integral. Additionally, Integral features two hidden tunes based on Metal Gear 2 available via a secret Codec frequency in the main game. One is an arranged version of the "Theme of Solid Snake," while the other is an arrangement of "Zanzibar Breeze." "Theme of Solid Snake" made an appearance in Nintendo's crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Shadow Moses Island stage.

Remixes and re-recordings of tunes from Metal Gear 2 appear in the album Metal Gear / Solid Snake: Music Compilation of Hideo Kojima / Red Disc and a remix of "Zanzibar Land" named "Zanzibarland Breeze" appeared in the album Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Music Collection. The tunes "Level 3 Warning" and "Level 1 Warning" appeared in the orchestrated medley "Metal Gear 20 Years History ~Past, Presnet, Future~" from the same album.

"Theme of Solid Snake" and "Level 3 Warning" were also unlockable songs for Snake's iPod in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
