A legendary brown bear inhabited Afghanistan in 1984.
History[]
While most of the region's brown bears (Ursus arctos) were of the Eurasian subspecies (U. a. arctos), the legendary bear was a Himalayan brown bear (U. a. isabellinus). Distinguishable by its whitish fur, as opposed to the Eurasian bears' dark brown, this individual was described as "legendary" due to its mighty strength.[1]
In 1984, the legendary bear was deemed a priority target for capture by Diamond Dogs, who had been hired by an NGO dedicated to animal conservation. It was extracted from the warzone by Fulton recovery, and transferred to the Animal Conservation Platform of Diamond Dog's Mother Base, where it shared a cage with a Eurasian bear.

The legendary brown bear appears in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. It is more difficult to neutralize than other brown bears, requiring more hits from tranquilizer rounds to be downed.
