Behind the scenes[]

Metal Gear Online 3 launched with five maps: Amber Station, Black Site, Gray Rampart, Jade Forest and Red Fortress. On December 20, 2015, along with regular design notes, DLC was announced for Metal Gear Online.[1] On January 12, 2016, it was announced that a new map based on Mother Base would be included in the upcoming DLC, with fans having the chance to officially name it via Twitter.[2] The base was officially named "Coral Complex" on the Designer Notes' 11th volume. The name was derived from the coral reefs for both their resemblance to the ocean's surroundings as well as the default color for Mother Base being bright orange, which was reminiscent of coral reefs.[3][4]
