Tiltrotor

Desperado's tiltrotor in Africa, 2018.

A modified tiltrotor aircraft was utilized by the PMC Desperado Enforcement LLC. Its onboard weapons and defensive systems included flares as well as a machine gun mounted on the fuselage of the vehicle. It also possessed cables and hooks as a means to extract personnel directly from the battlefield.

In 2018, the tiltrotor was utilized in Africa to retrieve Desperado commander Sundowner from a moving train, after he had killed African prime minister N'mani. The tiltrotor reappeared a short time later to extract Desperado-aligned cyborg Samuel Rodrigues, following his duel with Sundowner's initial pursuer, Raiden. Raiden's commander, Boris of Maverick Security Consulting, Inc., attempted to shoot down the aircraft with a modified FIM-92 Stinger as it was escaping, but the aircraft deployed flares and flew behind a cliff causing the missiles to miss, in large part because the missile system was outdated.[1] Maverick member Courtney Collins later discovered that the aircraft had been registered as a mail carrier for Somalia, although Raiden deduced that it was a fake registration due to it being the incorrect helicopter type, and implied that it was typical of Desperado.[2]

Two tiltrotor aircraft were later present in a hangar at the Shabhazabad Air Base, Pakistan.

Behind the scenes[]

The tiltrotor was first seen in the TGS Game Show trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The aircraft bears a resemblance to the real life V-22 Osprey, albeit with a futuristic modified look to it.

The front section of the aircraft resembles The Hammerhead and the AH-64 Apache but without canards.

Courtney: By the way, I picked up something interesting on that tiltrotor back in Africa. // Raiden: Desperado's getaway vehicle? What do you got? // Courtney: I traced its registration. It comes up as a -- get this -- mail transport. A Somali civilian helicopter. // Raiden: Not even the right type of aircraft. So the registraion is fake. Well, par for the course for Desperado, I guess.
