DLC menu (Japanese version).

Extra content could be downloaded for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker via the PlayStation Network. The content included uniforms, Walkman songs, AI voices, VOCALOID song programs and, in the Japanese version, exclusive magazines. 15 DLC packages were released in Japan, 12 of which were also released in internationally. The DLC for the PSP version was discontinued on September 30, 2013, attempts to download after that date were met with a message explaining the service's end.[1] Much of the content was included as standard for the HD version of Peace Walker. Some extra content could also be accessed through the use of pass codes. The overall size of the DLC, not counting the VOCALOID or pass code content, and depending on the release, is either 29058 kilobytes (international) or 31044 kilobytes (Japanese).

Uniforms[]

Special DLC uniforms are available via DLC. The uniforms have a varying camouflage levels, and, with the exception of Comrade and Guns&Jungle, also come with a "naked" version. Each uniform takes up 130 kilobytes. The uniforms were included in the HD Edition upon release.

The twelfth DLC-unlocked uniform(s). The Comrade is patterned with black, gray, white, and yellow camouflage colors patterned after the Militaires Sans Frontieres logo and is decent in Concrete and Rock environments, and passable for Sand, Jungle, Swamp, Tree, Dirt, and Runs areas. Guns and Jungle has green and brown prints with the latter color being in the shape of guns, and has very good camouflage in Jungle environments, decent camouflage in Swamp, Tree, and Ruins environments, and passable camouflage in Sand, Concrete, Dirt, and Rock environments.

Promotional passwords[]

In addition to the above methods of unlocking special items, DLC for Peace Walker can also be unlocked via password when entering the extras menu. They include a HORI shirt, a Walkman shirt, a FOX shirt, Uniqlo shirts, a Doritos shirt, a Pepsi NEX shirt, a Mountain Dew shirt, an AXE shirt, and a Lawson shirt. With the exception of the first four items, all of the items are available only in the Japanese versions of Peace Walker, and can be gained from HORI products, a limited edition camouflaged Walkman, a limited edition bundle of Peace Walker, the Uniqlo T-shirt line (with one for each of the 14 variants of the shirts counting different color variants, and a UT logo), limited edition Mountain Dew cans, specially marked AXE products, and Lawson stores, respectively. In addition, the Play Arts Kai line of Peace Walker toys are stated to have passwords, although they mostly unlock new soldiers and nothing else. The sole exception to this rule was the Big Boss Sneaking Suit figure's password, which allowed for a FOX T-shirt to be unlocked.
