The Twin Barrel Shotgun, also known as the double barreled shotgun, 12-gauge double barrel shotgun, or the double rifle, was a shotgun that was originally used for hunting. They can come either whole or sawed-off.

Although twin barrels were invented around the 17th century, they didn't reach high demand until around the 19th century for hunting purposes, to which it still is primarily used.

Peace Walker Incident[]

During the Peace Walker Incident in Costa Rica in 1974, Big Boss and his mercenary group, the Militaires Sans Frontieres, managed to find design specs for the double barreled shotgun within Banana Fruta de Oro's sorting shed. The R&D Team of the Militaires Sans Frontieres eventually modified it by reducing it to a sawed off double barrel shotgun making it easier to handle, as well as increasing its reload speed. The Militaires Sans Frontieres managed to also find design specs for another variation of the Twin Barrel Shotgun, this one firing rubber slugs to knock enemies out rather than killing them, after neutralizing an enemy unit at the Los Cantos Canyon. Similar to its cousin, the Rubber-slug Twin Barrel Shotgun's reload speed was increased under the R&D Team.

A group of South American rebel soldiers utilized sawed-off Twin Barrel Shotguns during their revolution against a local regime in 2014. Likewise, some members of the Paradise Lost Army utilized the sawed-off variety of Twin Barrel as their firearms.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

"A double-barreled shotgun used for hunting. The design is outdated and it only holds two shells at a time, but its high reliability has enabled it to withstand the test of time.
(Rank 1) Although the shells are powerful enough to send enemies flying with a close-range hit, it only has the range of a pistol. Best suited to players who excel in close-quarters fighting.
(Rank 2) The barrel has been sawed off short for easier handling. This modification also increases the effective range of AUTO AIM and makes the gun an even better match for close-quarters combat.
(Ranks 3-5) Modifications to the chamber have made it easier to load, reducing reload time and making the gun even more perfect for close-quarters combat.
