In Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the player can collect various materials for developing Mother Base, as well as various weapons, equipment, and vehicles. Unprocessed materials are far more common but require the player to wait for Mother Base's Base Development Team to process them before they can be used. Finding already-processed materials on the field will result in Diamond Dogs being able to use the materials straight away but are far lower in quantity.[1] Each time a material is processed with its maximum quantity, 250,000 GMP worth of materials will be processed.

Fuel resources are the most common requirements to develop bases, being required to develop Command Platform, Combat Platform, R&D Platform, Base Development Unit Platform, and Medical Platform. As such, they serve as the biggest obstacle to players when developing bases. They can be found easily in several areas, including OKB Zero, Nova Braga Airport, and the cave at the beginning of Mission 12. They can be sold for 100 GMP each.

Can be processed a maximum of 2,500 each time offline. Are required to develop Base Development, Support and Medical Platform. They can be sold for 100 GMP each.

Can be processed a maximum of 1,250 at a time. Are worth 200 GMP a piece. They serve as a requirement to develop the Command Platform.

―Unprocessed precious metals description in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Precious metals can be processed a maximum of 250 at a time offline. They are highly valuable and can be sold for 1,000 GMP each. Three red containers (1500 total) can be found in Nova Braga Airport but are indoors and require the Wormhole Fulton to extract. They are the only materials that aren't required for developing either Mother Base itself or the various Forward Operating Bases, though they are required for some weapons and equipment development. Many Grade 7 or higher weapons require 200,000 precious metals or more, quickly depleting a player's precious metal reservoir. If looking to develop such weapons, infiltrating a Base Development Unit with 10,000+ worth of unprocessed precious metals is desirable to replace the lost processed ones. Albeit, it will take a significant amount of time to process them.

Blueprints/First Aid Manual[]

Although technically not materials, they were stored in briefcases similar to the processed materials. In addition, they also had the markings "TP" on them similar to the research containers in "Cursed Legacy", suggesting a connection between the two similar to the processed materials containers and the materials containers.

Kazuhira Miller: Those materials [fuel resources] have already been processed. It may not be much, but we can use them straight away if you bring them back to [Mother] Base.
