Fork

As a piece of cutlery or kitchenware, a fork is a tool consisting of a handle with several narrow tines on one end. The utensil (usually metal) is used to lift food to the mouth or to hold food in place while cooking or cutting it. Food can be lifted either by spearing it on the tines, or by holding it on top of the tines, which are often curved slightly.

Use by Naked Snake

Naked Snake procured a fork, which weighed 0.1 kg, while imprisoned in Groznyj Grad, during the events of Operation Snake Eater. The fork gave him a means of catching and eating any food that he may have come across. During his escape, Snake discovered that the fork, while rudimentary, was a CQC-appropriate weapon, providing him with some limited defense until he could retrieve his gear. Though he was initially chastized by Sigint for not coping with the wilderness, he complimented Snake upon hearing of its use as a weapon.

Behind the scenes

"A fork. Used for eating. Can be used in place of the survival knife. Plants and animals nabbed using the fork can be eaten on the spot."

The fork is found in the Groznyj Grad cell in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It allows Naked Snake to instantly eat any animal or plant he kills with it, eliminating the problem of having a full backpack. In addition, the fork can be used to remove the transmitter planted on Snake by Ocelot, as well as bullets from wounds, similar to the combat knife. During Metal Gear Solid 3's development, Hideo Kojima briefly alluded to its use as an item in a dinner interview with PSM, although he did not specify that he meant a dinner fork.
