Metal Gear Solid: Essentials is a upcoming collection of games for the PS2. It will be released in March 2008. Not much is known about it but it will feature Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence without Metal Gear Online. All three games are the director cut versions, never released anywhere until now! Each game will have new artwork, and Metal Gear Solid has its own PS2 case, but the Version is the PS1 version. Expect more details soon.

I recently (like...last week) bought the essentials pack, just to check it out. Its really nothing special. Just a "Primo Pack" for gamers who are planning on buying MGS4, but have never played an MGS game in their life. It consists of Disc 1 and 2 MGS, Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance, and Disc 1 Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence (which was very dissapointing to me, because not all camo's can be unlocked with disc 1 alone, and the Snake Vs. Monkey, and the Secret theater are unknown to gamers just starting out.) Not to mention, because my previous copy of Subsistence was ruined, due to the idiotic actions of a drunk friend, I had to search, and buy Disc 2 and the Limited Edition Disc 3. It was...more of a let down, than a normal Metal Gear Rush. Solid Shane 18:30, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm fairly new to the MGS world. i started playing the games about a year ago, and became instantly hooked. My friend let me borrow the Essential Collection Edition, allowing me to play 1,2,and 3. After beating the games several times, and then buying MGS4, I had heard of a multiplayer option for MGS3. I quickly checked my friends game to find the option, but with no luck could it be found. Althought yes, the games do not have a multiplayer option like the original, they are still the games we all love. I recieved them for Christmas this year, and was an instant be gift. The only problem I have with the games is: "Meryl's codec number is on the back of the CD case...wait?" Otaconharter 15:33, January 6, 2010 (UTC)

The servers for MGS3 online were shut down to make way for the multiplayer option of MGS4. The option was on the second disk of the re-release of MGS3, "Subsistence". However, because they did not include this disk in the essential collection, they also left out the option to play the old Metal Gear games, from the late 80s/early 90s, that started off the whole franchise. --Bluerock 17:07, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
Also Meryl's codec number is 140.15 [yes, I memorised it :) ]. --Bluerock 17:09, January 6, 2010 (UTC)
