The Fulton Cannon, also known as the Fulton trap, is a one-use trap designed to launch a Fulton surface-to-air recovery system on any enemies unfortunate enough to activate the trap at a specific range (initially 5 meters, and works in 360 degrees). It was made of material steel alloy, and includes a braided nylon line and mylar marker. It can be placed anywhere, even indoors, and placing the trap takes less than one second. The time it takes effect on anyone caught in the trap is two seconds, and can be made shorter with improvements. However, it cannot fulton objects, and it can be destroyed by gunfire. They also cannot activate while someone within range is sleeping.

The Fulton Cannon is a weapon that makes its debut in the third iteration of Metal Gear Online, included in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. First identified in twitter posts as the Fulton trap, it first appeared in the debut trailer for the game in the VGA 2014 session. As part of a commemoration of making its 1000th tweet, the official Metal Gear Online Twitter account published a concept art on the Fulton trap, as well as gave some statistics and details about the weapon. At the time the post was made, they considered it available to any and all soldier classes and all modes, although they implied it would change in the future. In addition, they also revealed that the use of the Fulton trap does not count as a kill for obvious reasons, and that it can be used for various purposes. It is unlockable after the player reaches Level 17, with the player having two per playthrough, and it weighing 3.0 KG.
