This article is about the Guyanese boy in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. You may be looking for other individuals named George.

George was a Guyanese runaway that Raiden briefly becomes acquainted with during his mission in Mexico in 2018. As such, he also spoke Guyanese Creole, an English-based creole language.

Biography

George was a former street beggar trying to survive in Guyana. However, a man in a suit with an Italian accent (implied to be a Desperado agent) offered him a job. He decided to go for it, figuring there wouldn't be anything worse than living as a street beggar. Unfortunately for him, his troubles only increased when he ended up thrown into a boat for a cyborg development and research facility located in Mexico as part of a human trafficking plot by Desperado.

George managed to find out what they had planned to do with the thousands of children that had been abducted. Their brains were taken, and were somehow being used with Cyborg creation. The full extent though, was much more shocking. He managed to escape via a ventilation area, and had originally intended to have the other children escape with him. However, because the other kids could not speak the same language as him, he ultimately was the only one to escape.

George

George immediately after being rescued by Raiden.

George didn't get far from the lab before he ended up cornered by various Desperado-owned Unmanned Gears, including Raptors and Dwarf Gekko. He was briefly witnessed by the UG Bladewolf, who likewise relayed the information to Raiden. Because George was being pursued by UGs, George also fled from Bladewolf, thinking it was one of Desperado's UGs, with Bladewolf likewise opting not to pursue, feeling that doing so would only confirm George's suspicions. It was at this moment that Raiden, having been notified by Bladewolf of the boy's existence, rescued him and vanquished the UGs. His name also painfully reminded Raiden of Solidus Snake. After learning what happened and the exact route, Raiden then made sure he was in a safe place before dispatching Maverick agents to rescue the boy. However, the Lab's personnel got to him first. The chief researcher of the lab then attempted to use the boy as a shield to prevent Raiden from rescuing the rest of the children who were being poisoned by chloroform gas. Although he initially didn't want to die, George was willing to allow himself to be killed if it meant rescuing the kids, and especially if it meant ensuring the scientist died with him. Raiden, already enraged at the scientist for his actions against the children, then cut down the chief scientist after George disarmed his gun, although George was bifurcated from the attack. Raiden then quickly uses the cryopreserver in the facility to save George's life.

George still retained his original head and left arm. Doktor also complimented Raiden on saving George's lower half, which would allow him to have children in the future. He was later placed into Doktor's custody, where he was allowed some luxury compared to his life as a street beggar, although he wanted to help Raiden take down World Marshal at Colorado (having been informed by this by Doktor much to Raiden's chagrin) and showed no hostility to him. Although Raiden did not outwardly show it to George, he did harbor intense guilt for his putting George at risk. He later went to work at Solis Space & Aeronautics alongside Sunny.

Behind the scenes

George (ジョージ Jōji?) is a character from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. He was first mentioned by name in a Computer and Video Games article, covering some unique Platinum Games-style humor.[1]

When first meeting Raiden, George exclaims, "A Ninja? Cowabunga!", referencing the catchphrase from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. The English version also has him cry, "Go, Ninja, Go, Ninja, Go!", referencing dialogue from the second Ninja Turtles movie, and lyrics from the Vanilla Ice song featured therein, "Ninja Rap." Konami, the publisher of the Metal Gear series, previously developed the Ninja Turtles video games.

Whenever George speaks, the subtitles frequently translate the Guyanese English he is speaking into standard English. Usually these translations are extremely loose and occasionally avoid inappropriate language. For example, the word "skunt" in the Guyanese dialect is equivalent to"fuck" and/or "cunt" in the standard English language, although with the exception of one brief dialogue, the game's subtitles translate it to "punk" and the like.
