Behind the scenes
The Mouse is a weapon featured in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake that can be procured by the player. Though its official purpose is to serve as a remote scouting device, and does not trigger sensors, its use in the game is limited to distracting enemy soldiers in order to evade Noise Mode. It resembles a wired computer mouse, rather than the rodent.
Once released, the mouse moves forward of the player's position, then moves independently upon encountering a wall. It will either eventually exit the game screen or remain in motion for about 5-10 seconds before disappearing. If the mouse is seen by an enemy guard, he will exclaim, "Huh... Just a mouse." If said guard is also investigating a noise made by the player, he will dismiss it and return to his patrol, cancelling Noise Mode. When the mouse is in use, it emits an audible squeaking sound and its tail wags as it moves. It cannot be used underwater.
