As their name implied, the Kidnappers' main purpose was to capture enemy personnel and deliver them to Peace Sentinel for processing, or in some cases, for reconnaissance and surveillance. Their armament included a gun capable of automatic rate of fire and fed by a box magazine and a three-pronged grappling arm for capturing personnel. They also used their grappling hook to make it easier for the Peace Sentinel soldiers and even other Kidnappers to gun down their enemy.
In 1974, Kidnapper UCAVs were deployed into Costa Rica by Peace Sentinel, and were also employed for defense by the Chrysalis AI weapon. They were often used to capture Sandinista guerillas for interrogation, who had fled from neighboring Nicaragua. The Sandinistas referred to the Kidnappers as chicolibri ("son of colibri"), in reference to the Chrysalis, which they had nicknamed el colibri ("the hummingbird").
The Kidnappers bore some resemblance to the later Cypher UAVs deployed from 2007-2009.
