Kill Count was a hard-line[1] Private Force that was active during the 1980s, as well as one of several PFs that were tarnishing the name of Private Forces via reckless actions motivated by money. Because of this as well as their more hardline business politics, they actually ended up making war even worse in their desire to line their own pockets, committing various war crimes.[2]

They were largely inspired by the Diamond Dogs. They held a rivalry with the PF No Alert, and as such, they ultimately were threatened by Diamond Dogs of having their Forward Operating Base raided after they were hired by No Alert to do so (with their agreeing due to their orders of operations being rendered chaotic as a result of both Kill Count and No Alert's actions).[3] Some time later, they also began abducting and interrogating personnel belonging to No Alert, which resulted in their entering conflict with Diamond Dogs again via having one of their Forward Operating Bases raided again.[1] Some time after that, they also began oppressing local soldiers in a conflict region, which mandated No Alert to hire Diamond Dogs again and infiltrate one of their FOBs again, this time to force the upper echelon to free the local soldiers, also extracting or eliminating any Kill Count soldiers at their leisure.[2]

Personnel

The Private Force, at the time of their first encounter with Diamond Dogs, had at least 598 members,[4] 322 of whom acted as part of the Security Team for their FOB. Each platform of their FOB had 46 soldiers guarding the platform, with eighteen being on the first strut and fourteen for each second and third strut of the various platform.

By the time of their second encounter, they had increased their manpower, possessing at least 867 members,[5] although the FOB used during this time had significantly less security, having only 119 members of the FOB's Security Team total. Each platform had 17 soldiers guarding the platform, with six being on the first strut, four on the second and third struts, and three for the fourth strut of each platform.

By their third encounter, they retained the same amount of manpower as their second encounter,[6] and while their security team was for the FOB used during this time than the second FOB, it still paled in comparison to the first FOB, only having 154 guards guarding the facility. Each platform had 22 soldiers guarding it, with 10 on the outer strut, and 12 guarding the inner strut.[6]

Base Facilities

Due to being mostly inspired by the Diamond Dogs and their Mother Base, Kill Count had erected at least three offshore Forward Operating Bases similar to Diamond Dogs'. Similar to Mosquito Stinger Force, Kill Count had two FOBs was located at the Central Indian Ridge,[7] and one located in the South Pacific Ocean.[6] For their first FOB, used at the time of their first encounter with Diamond Dogs, each platform on KC's FOB had three struts where resources and mounted weapons were stationed. On the outer struts (ie, the second and third decks of each platform), fourteen soldiers for each second and third deck were posted on patrol and the inner platforms housed eighteen patrolling soldiers. Each platform was also guarded by 12 surveillance cameras, six infrared sensor nets, and eighteen mines, with their being roughly split up evenly between four surveillance cameras, two infrared sensor nets, and eighteen mines for each strut.[4] Their second FOB, used during their second encounter, the struts for each platform were increased by one, with resources and mounted weapons being stationed on them as before. However, it also had a decrease in security compared to before, with the outer struts (ie, the fourth deck) only having three soldiers posted on patrol, the middle struts (ie, the second and third decks for each deck having only four soldiers posted on patrol, and the inner platforms housing only six patrolling soldiers. Each platform during this time were similarly lax in terms of security measures, only having 4 anti-theft devices and 4 infrared sensors for each strut, and 4 anti-aircraft guns for the outer strut only.[5] For their third FOB, used for their third encounter with Diamond Dogs, they had only two platforms each deck, a decrease compared to the first two. However, they made up for it by having a beefed up security team, as well as having eight mines (four on each deck), and having the inner perimeter dotted with anti-aircraft guns.[6]

Resources

Kill Count, at the time of their first encounter, had sixteen pre-processed resource shipping containers, two for fuel resources (one white, one yellow), two for biological material (one white, one yellow), two for common metals (one white, one yellow), three for minor metals (one white, two yellow), and seven for precious metals on most struts (two white, five yellow) and five precious metals for the Base Development Platform (one white, four yellow).[4]

Overall, the PF had access to 2250 Fuel Resources, 2250 Biological Material, 2250 Common Metals, 2000 Minor Metals, and 450 Precious Metals, as well as varying resources on each platform during the first encounter:[4]

By the time of their second encounter, their amount remained largely the same overall, as was the shipping containers for most of the materials, although the Precious Metals containers for all platforms except for the Base Development Platform had reduced from seven to five, with the Base Development Platform retaining exactly the same amount of materials as before:[5]

For the third encounter, they initially had access to pre-processed shipping containers for each platform, although they initially had access to 82 pre-processed materials shipping containers overall, with two for each type of material on all platforms save for the Base Development Platform, which instead had 4 containers for fuel resources, 3 for biological material, 3 for common metals, 5 for minor metals, and 7 for precious metals. With each subsequent invasion when resources were stolen, it dwindled down 1 container for fuel resources, 2 for biological materials, 2 for common metals, 2 for minor metals, and 3 for precious metals; to 3 containers for fuel resources, 4 for biological materials, no common metals containers, 1 minor metals container, and 2 precious metals containers on each platform; only 2 biological materials containers for each platform, and eventually no materials at all on each platform. They overall had access to 12000 fuel resources, 10500 biological material, 10500 common metals, 10000 minor metals, and 2250 precious metals initially, then after being raided the first time had 3750 fuel resources, 8250 biological materials, 8250 common metals, 5600 minor metals, and 1650 precious metals; then after being raided a second time dwindled to 3000 fuel resources, 6000 biological materials, 800 minor metals, and 1000 precious metals with common metals being drained; and finally being reduced to just 2250 biological materials.[6]

Equipment

The Kill Count security forces stationed on their FOB, at the time of their first encounter with Diamond Dogs, were equipped with grade 3 AM-MRS-4 assault rifles. In addition, their FOB was secured by 126 mines, 18 per platform, which is itself divided by six for each platform strut during that time.[4] By the time of their second encounter, however, while the security forces had upgraded their AM-MRS-4 assault rifles to be grade 4, there wasn't much defenses otherwise.[5] For the third encounter, they had grade 3 AM-MRS-4 assault rifles, as well as 56 mines, eight on each platform, and four for each strut.[6]

Kill Count also had access to 63 emplaced weapons on their FOB at the time of their first encounter with Diamond Dogs, nine for each platform, with seven being congregated on the first deck and two being congregated on the second deck.[4] Emplaced weapons mainly included anti-aircraft guns and mortars.

For their second encounter, they had drastically reduced emplaced weapons, only having four anti-aircraft guns on the outermost struts.[5]

For their third encounter, they had four anti-aircraft guns on the innermost struts.[6]

Kill Count's logo featured an upside down diamond patch, depicting a green background as well as a hooded figure resembling the Grim Reaper, a mythological figure depicted as a nearly skeletal figure with black robes and a hood and wielding a large scythe, and often acts as the personification of death. Below the scythe's blade were the words Kill Count.

Behind the scenes

Kill Count is the antagonistic group for the Online FOB events "New World Order" and "Bound Dragons." Retrieving any soldiers and personnel will not result in a retaliation.

"Upstart PFs are appearing all over the globe. Though inspired by Diamond Dogs, their reckless actions, motivated by money, have brought chaos to our areas of operations. Not only have they brought discredit to the PF industry, they are now on the verge of triggering new conflicts. One of these PFs, known as "No Alert," has requested that we infiltrate their rival "Kill Count." Your mission is to infiltrate the base and put Kill Count's personnel and materials to better use in Diamond Dogs."
―New World Order mission briefing in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
"We've received a new contract from small-time PF "NO ALERT." They claim the hardline PF "KILL COUNT" has been repeatedly abducting and interrogating NO ALERT personnel.
The mission objective is to infiltrate a Kill Count platform, extract as many prisoners as possible, and reach the goal.
"
―Bound Dragons mission briefing in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
"Freedom from Oppression: Under the contract of the embattled and up-and-coming PF "NO ALERT," we are to mount an assault against "KILL COUNT," a PF whose hardline business politics have seen them chew through countless mercenaries and worsening the violence in conflict regions, all while filling their own pockets.
The mission objective is to liberate local soldiers who are being oppressed by the KILL COUNT upper echleons.
Infiltrate the enemy platform and reach the goal point, extracting or eliminating as many enemy soldiers as possible along the way.
"

The event was eventually rereleased again between February 23-March 8. It is largely the same as before, although with a few notable differences:

  • The mission tasks have removed increased the neutralization/fultoning of guards from 1 and 5 to 3 and 7, respectively, as well as omitted any specific requirements for neutralizing the guards, added a task related shooting a UAV at its weak point from a range of 60 meters or more, and switched around the 1.01+ bonus and the no kill and no alerts tasks. The points earned have also been altered, generally being much higher than before, and in the case of the final two tasks, their prices stayed at the same spot despite the tasks themselves being swapped around.
    • Owing to the addition of a certain mission task in the February 23 rerelease, the security measures have also been further altered to include two UVAs (all on the first deck) and eight security cameras (four per deck on the first and second decks) per platform. The security personnel amount have also been increased from 17 troops overall per platform (with 6 on the first deck, four for both the second and third decks, and three for the fourth deck) to 29 soldiers overall per platform (with ten on the first deck, eight on the second deck, six on the third deck, and five on the fourth deck).
  • The EP bonus for completing an infiltration successfully the first time around for each platform is also 3000 instead of 2000, and the EP bonus for each succeeding successful infiltration is now 30 instead of 100.
  • The rewards, staff distribution aside are different than before. In the prior release, the player can win the Ambush uniform, the Weapon Colors 001, 019, and 024, the Base Color 002, and the Buddy Emblem: D-Walker, while in the rerelease, the rewards are instead the Iron Blue uniform, the Weapon Colors 006, 015, and 026, the Man on Fire and Third Child emblems, and there is no base color at all.
    • In addition, the S+ soldiers now are 10 for combat and 5 for other units respectively instead of 6 and 3 respectively, and they all cost 13200, instead of 28620 and 15900 respectively. Similarly, the S++ soldiers now are 5 for combat and 3 for other units respectively instead of 4 and 2, respectively, although unlike the S+ soldiers, the price remained the same.
    • The event also features a contest where the player can get one of four Snake nameplates, which one depending on the Event Point ranking range is currently at (1-10 gets a gold nameplate, 11-100 gets a silver nameplate, 101-500 gets a bronze nameplate, and 501-1000 gets a standard nameplate).

The April 19-26 rerelease of Bound Dragons is mostly the same as the February 23-March 8 rerelease, with the only differences being the following:

  • The Mission Task of fultoning a set amount of security guards has been changed from 7 to 3, with the task of neutralizing a set amount of soldiers at the maximum required is changed from 7 to 9. Similarly, the former task's Event Point total has been changed to 250.
  • There is no Snake nameplate contest.

For Freedom From Oppression, the completion point awards include S++ Staff x2 for the relevant unit for reaching the core for the first as well as last chosen platform type ([A++ Staff] x5 will be awarded to the relevant unit instead if it was already cleared) as well as [A++ Staff] x5 for the relevant unit for each platform completed in between). In addition, because of the inclusion of Event Points, the player can also win the following: Limited edition event-only FOB color schemes; Limited edition event-only weapon colors; [S++ Staff] (can be received up to 1 times by exchanging Event Points); [S+ Staff] (can be received up to 10 times by exchanging Event Points); and [S Staff] (can be received up to 10 times by exchanging Event Points). The event was eventually rereleased for Feburary 9-23. The stats were mostly the same as before, although there were a few elements that were different:

  • The mission tasks have removed any tasks related to fultoning personnel, added a task related to fultoning a mortar, altered the task of neutralizing a security guard by specifying that it needed to be from 60 meters away or more and requiring a headshot, and also added tasks relating to successfully infiltrating overall and specifically infiltrating successfully while wearing combat fatigues. The points earned have also been altered: Aside from the new tasks for the rerelease, there were also 200 less EP rewarded for fultoning 1 anti air emplacement than before, there were also 340 less EP for neutralizing eight security guards than before, there are 20 more EP for neutralizing all security guards than before, and there are 100 more EP points for successfully infiltrating without either killing or entering alert mode.
  • There are no soldier bonuses unlike last time.
  • The GMP rewarded is also 1000 less than before.
  • The EP bonus for completing an infiltration successfully the first time around for each platform is also 3000 instead of 1000, although the amount for successful infiltrations afterwards remain the same.
  • The rewards, staff distribution aside are different than before. In the initial release, the player can win the Woodland Fleck and Old Rose uniforms, the Weapon Colors 028, 029, and 030, the Base Color 003, and the Buddy Emblem: Quiet, while in the rerelease, the rewards are instead the Lichen uniform, the Weapon Colors 003, 020, and 021, the Base Color 006, and the Ocelot Emblem.
    • In addition, the S+ soldiers now are 10 for combat and 5 for other units respectively instead of 6 and 3 respectively, and they all cost 13200, instead of 28620 and 15900 respectively.

The Event on April 28-May 9 was the same as before. However, the event's first few hours had the staff, material, and GMP be nearly double or quadruple that of the usual rewards. This has since been fixed to reflect the standard reward procedure.

Their name, alongside that of their rival, are an inside reference to score conditions for completing a game or mission in the Metal Gear series. In addition, their logo featured the Grim Reaper, who was a recurring boss character in the Castlevania series. Both Metal Gear and Castlevania are owned by Konami.

"Zero Risk Security Inc." visible on the back of a Kill Count guard in "Bound Dragons".

In the "Bound Dragons" FOB Event, Kill Count soldiers are equipped with the same Riot Gear as Zero Risk Security Heavy Infantry in the Single Player portion. Since the model is re-used, the "Zero Risk Security Inc." is still visible on the back of the soldiers' armor. Similarly, in the "Freedom from Oppression" FOB Event, the Kill Count soldiers' uniforms are similar to the No Alert uniforms in "The Skulls Attack."

Despite being an entirely separate Private Force to Diamond Dogs, the Kill Count soldiers stationed on the PF's FOB have Diamond Dogs unit patches on their left shoulders. This is true of player-made FOBs and as such is considered a non-canon detail.
