The Leipzig Games Convention, better known as Games Convention or GC, was an annual gaming convention held from 2002 up to 2010 in Leipzig, Germany, that also covered edutainment, infotainment, and hardware. The convention had been formed by the Leipzig Fair. Boasting 183,000 visitors, 25 representing countries, 368 exhibitions, and 2,600 journalists in 2006, it was tied with Tokyo Game Show as being the biggest game-related event, surpassing E3 2006 and only being surpassed by Gamescom in 2009, which also took place in Germany (specifically, Cologne).
Relation to the Metal Gear series
Aside from Konami and Kojima Productions covering their games (particularly the Metal Gear series with the latter) since Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Kojima Productions also unveiled several merchandise for their games, and in addition had part of their 2007 event site dedicated to that year's Game Convention, which included revealing new screenshots for Metal Gear Online via a slide projector, a trailer and screencaps for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, plus a group artwork for the then-recently announced Beauty and the Beast Unit as well as images depicting the real life model templates for each of the Beauty forms of the B&B Corps members, and an announcement that the official Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus website was up and running.
