United States Marine Corps
From the Metal Gear Wiki
The United States Marine Corps (USMC) - commonly known as the U.S. Marines - is a branch of the United States military responsible for providing force projection from the sea, using the U.S. Navy's mobility to rapidly deliver combined-arms task forces. The United States Marine Corps mainly serves as an amphibious force-in-readiness. Today, it has three primary areas of responsibility, originally introduced back in 1947:
- The seizure or defense of advanced naval bases and other land operations to support naval campaigns
- The development of tactics, techniques, and equipment used by amphibious landing forces
- "Such other duties as the President may direct."
They were the force responsible for the creation of Metal Gear RAY, which was in response to the proliferation of Metal Gear variants throughout the world. A large group of marines guarded the tanker Discovery while it was transporting RAY. Most famous during this incident was the Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Scott Dolph. After Ocelot betrayed Sergei Gurlukovich, the Marines guarding the Tanker ended up having to fight back against Metal Gear RAY. Every Marine on board went down with the sinking tanker as well as the Gurlukovich Mercenaries.

[edit] Trivia
- The Marines motto is "Semper Fidelis", meaning "Always Faithful", commonly shortened to "Semper Fi". Snake's usage of this motto to Peter Stillman and Raiden was what first sparked suspicion that he was not, as he claimed, a Navy SEAL named Iroquois Pliskin.
