Medical kits are a type of field kit used to treat injuries sustained on the battlefield. They usually contain various medical necessities such as bandages, disinfectent, and surgical knives.
During Naked Snake's missions into Tselinoyarsk, he utilized a field kit within his backpack to treat various injuries that he received during the mission. When Naked Snake was discovered by GRU Colonel Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin, captured, and tortured, Volgin also let Naked Snake have access to his medical kit while he was imprisoned so he could recover from his wounds, although solely because Volgin intended to continue his torture on him at a later point. Naked Snake was later forced to use part of his field kit to treat EVA's injuries in addition to his own after EVA received injuries relating to a motorcycle crash.

During the San Hieronymo Incident in 1970, the personnel on the San Hieronymo Peninsula utilized medical kits for treating injuries, which were organized into two different packages based on size. Several of these kits, of both sizes, were left behind at the Soviet base's hospital when they were intended to be transferred to the research lab. Many of the kits were also procured by Big Boss and his resistance group that were fighting Gene's rebellion.

Behind the scenes
In Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, two sizes of medical kit exist: the small version features a hypodermic needle and a bandage roll, and recovers a small amount of LIFE; the large version recovers a greater amount of LIFE, and features additional medicines in the form of pills, a bottle, and an ampoule.
