Metal Gear Mk. II
From the Metal Gear Wiki
The Metal Gear Mk. II (and later the Metal Gear Mk. III) was a miniature Metal Gear designed and created by Otacon and Sunny. Otacon used it to deliver ammunition and advice to Solid Snake. It's equipped with Stealth camouflage, and Otacon uses it to aid Snake throughout his missions in the Middle East, South America and Eastern Europe. While in Europe, Otacon hid the Mk. II on Liquid Ocelot's boat and listened in on Liquid, Vamp and Naomi talking before it was discovered and destroyed.
It was then replaced with its successor, Metal Gear Mk. III, which was functionally identical to the Mk. II, apart from being reddish brown instead of cobalt blue. The Mk. III was then used by Snake and Otacon in their last two missions at Shadow Moses Island and in Outer Haven, where it assisted Snake in placing FOXALIVE into GW, which in turn, finally erased The Patriots once and for all. After these events Sunny gives it to her first outside friend as a gift.
The Metal Gear Mk. II & III can also be used as as short range reconnaissance devices and can shock enemies, knocking them unconscious. It runs on batteries which can run out of power while in operation. In addition, the robots can only travel a short distance from Snake before they escape control range, meaning they must back off, or Snake must move closer and send in the robots again. Amusingly enough, Snake controls them with a PS3 controller.
If the player takes the Mk II out of stealth mode both the rebels and the PMCs will attack it by either shooting at it or kicking it. On sighting the MK II the PMC or rebel says "What? A robot?" or "What is a robot doing here?". If the Mk II sustains damage, Otacon yells at Snake: "What are you trying to do to the MK II?".
[edit] Trivia
- Metal Gear Mk. II originally appeared in Hideo Kojima's Snatcher. In Snatcher, Metal Gear is the robotic "navigator" that is assigned to JUNKER operative Gillian Seed. According to its engineer, Harry Benson, it was modeled after "the Metal Gear menace of the late 20th century".
