The following is a list of the Easter eggs and references to other games and media in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
The Side Op Intel Operative Rescue shows Big Boss examining a pair of Hideo Kojima's signature shades, J.F.Rey Eyewear glasses. The mission even ends with the revelation that the VIP target Big Boss and Kazuhira Miller were rescuing was none other than Kojima himself. This scene is also a reference to Big Boss' rescue of Kazuhira Miller in the E3 2013 trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain with the line; "Snake... What took you so long?". After completing the Op, Kojima is seen inside the helicopter mission select menu where he will occasionally give the missions a spin.
If the player is wearing the Classic Snake or Gray Fox skin during the Dèjà Vu mission, these POWs will have the appearance of Decoy Octopus as Donald Anderson and Kenneth Baker, both victims of FOXDIE in Metal Gear Solid.
During the Dèjà Vu mission, there is a cassette tape found near the beach that has two tracks from past Metal Gear games on it. "The Resurgence (ALERT!)" music from Metal Gear Solid and the "Theme of Tara" from the original Metal Gear for the MSX2.
Collecting all the cassette tapes in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes also rewards the player with a tape that has "Beyond the Bounds" from Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner on it.
Metal Gear logos
Throughout the Déjà Vu and Jamais Vu mission areas, the player can find the title logos of every other Metal Gear game. Interrogating a certain guard will mark all the locations of the logos in the level. The AM MRS-4 rifle found in the admin building armory emits a blue light that can erase the logos of the Kojima-directed Metal Gear games. Completing it triggers a short Codec call with Kojima.
During the Intel Operative Rescue side-mission, there are Moai statues scattered throughout the base. These statues are common Konami Easter egg and have appeared since classic games like Gradius and the original Castlevania.
