Missiles may refer to:
Missiles, prior to the 20th century, usually referred to any thrown object. However, it is currently referring to self-propelled guided weapons system. Although long predating the modern definition, the first weapon of this type were arrow-like devices running on gunpowder, developed by the Chinese in the 13th century, and later utilized by the Mongols in the Mongolian invasion of Europe in 1223. In the 19th century, the British also developed the Congreve rocket, which was later used in the War of 1812. Sokolov, in 1970, likewise mentioned that the American national anthem referenced rockets via the line "the rockets red glare."
