N'mani was the Prime Minister of an unidentified African country during the late 2010s. He was often accompanied by two twin cyborg bodyguards resembling bald men wearing black suits called Gemini.

Biography

Rebuilding his country

At some point prior to 2015, N'mani became the Prime Minister of an African country in the middle of a severe civil war. Despite not trusting PMCs, N'mani decided to hire such a group, Maverick Security Consulting, Inc., whose members preferred to call themselves "private security providers." Maverick and particularly one of its agents, Raiden, helped N'mani to rebuild the country within just three years starting in 2015. Despite the challenges of old tribal urges, the military, and the entrepreneurs, N'mani with Maverick's help nonetheless managed to restore order, with Raiden recalling that he did so without even firing a shot, and also wondered whether his childhood back in Liberia would have been different if someone like N'mani had been running things.

Assassination

By 2018, Raiden and N'mani managed to rebuild much of the country, as well as training its army. During a convoy ride in the country, a PMC called Desperado Enforcement LLC., hired by an anti-N'mani faction, attacked the convoy, which included N'mani's limousine. Raiden then step out the limousine to guard N'mani from the attackers, ordering the limousine to drive away from the battlezone.

N'mani was eventually captured by the PMC's leader, Sundowner, who then proceeded to torture him by cutting under his chin after taking him to a train. N'mani survived this, and told Raiden, who had been dispatched to rescue him, that he should focus on stopping Desperado, and forget about saving him. He was ultimately killed after being stabbed through the back by Sundowner, who let his body fall off the train.

After death

N'mani's assassination was later recreated for VR purposes by Desperado. The LQ-84i, the day prior to being assigned to Abkhazia three weeks after N'mani's assassination, was placed into VR and supplied by Mistral with a mission to eliminate a "certain pesky politician," threatening to wipe his memory if he disobeyed. Upon finding a holographic mannequin of N'mani, he proceeded to cut it apart with his chainsaw, accomplishing the VR mission.

During Raiden's subsequent ops against Desperado, Raiden and Doktor later speculated the possibility of reviving N'mani as a cyborg, although they eventually decided against it, as the former prime minister's status as such would be easily detected in a way that would have done him more harm than good.

Personality

NmaniAdvise

Prime Minister N'mani and his personal advisor.

N'mani was initially untrusting of private military contractors, although after Maverick successfully rebuilt his country and trained his army for it to be independent within only three years, he gave them credit when conversing with Maverick member Raiden, whom he also nicknamed "Mr. Lightning Bolt," in reference to the English meaning of his codename (Raiden basically being Japanese for lightning bolt).

He was described by both Raiden and Kevin Washington to be very charismatic. In addition, N'mani was also very modest, as evidenced by his telling his advisor, who told him that the peace was a sign of a strong leader that it was actually the sign of the will of a strong people as well as his advisor being very able, and also crediting Maverick.

N'mani was very brave and calm in the face of danger as when the limo was being attacked by Sam and Desperado's cyborg soldiers when his advisor said they are going to die he told him to calm down. When Sundowner was about to cut under chin he just looked at Sundowner with a disgusted expression on his face and just before he died, knowing his fate, told Raiden to forget saving him and focus on stopping Desperado.

Behind the scenes

N'mani is a character who appears in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Although he is a minor character, his assassination is effectively what sparks the events of the game.

N'mani, or rather, his likeness, also appears in the opening level for the Blade Wolf DLC, where the titular unmanned gear is ordered by Mistral to assassinate a "pesky politician" in a VR training exercise.
