A Nameplate is a customization feature for Mother Base that was introduced in the Version 1.07 update for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Other information

The Quiet, D-Dog, D-Horse, Miller, Ocelot, Skull Face, and Man on Fire nameplates require the player to successfully infiltrate a FOB armed with a Defender during the Event Period, with it being necessary to infiltrate once, 10, 30, and 100 times depending on the nameplate type (normal, bronze, silver, and gold, respectively). It is to be noted that it only requires that the prerequisites only need to be met and unlocked once, as afterwards, the nameplates will be included for distribution in each successive event.[2] The Snake nameplates, likewise, requires that the player gain top rankings in Event Points, with normal requiring top 501-1000, bronze requiring top 101-500, silver requiring top 11-100, and gold requiring top 1-10. On a related note, the Snake nameplates are the only nameplate sets to require the direct involvement of the FOB event mission in the event period to unlock, as the others, while released during specific FOB event periods, require that the player do regular FOB infiltrations instead of the actual FOB event missions to access.

In the initial release and to a lesser extent re-release for the nameplates, not counting the Snake nameplate set, they also were released with an emblem matching the character in the nameplate. The only exceptions were the initial release of the Miller nameplate, which had the Buddy Emblem: D-Walker being released instead of an actual emblem for Miller, and the Man on Fire, who also had an emblem of Third Child released alongside an emblem of the Man on Fire himself (the latter being a reference to their partnership in the game). In order, the Quiet nameplate's initial release had the Buddy emblem version of her while the rerelease version had the facial version of her; the D-Dog initial release had the Buddy emblem version while the rerelease version had his likeness as a puppy; the initial release for D-Horse had the buddy emblem version; the Ocelot nameplate had a matching emblem; and the Skull Face nameplate likewise had a matching emblem. The Miller nameplate is the only nameplate thus far to not be released with a matching emblem at any point (in the first release, the emblem was released with Buddy Emblem: D-Walker as aforementioned, and in the second release, there was no emblem released at all with the event, in large part because of the MIRAZH-71 grenade launcher being released halfway through the event).

The nameplates also have a varying logo on each of them. The normal version has no logo on it, the Bronze version has the Militaires Sans Frontières logo, the Silver version has the Diamond Dogs logo, and the Gold version has the initial Outer Heaven logo.

In some FOBs between January 5 and January 12, there was at least one player spotted with a Gold-colored Skull Face nameplate, implying that he was going to be in a series of nameplates and that there were going to be more nameplates besides Snake, Quiet, D-Dog, and D-Horse.[3] Leaked data confirmed as much and also revealed that there would be nameplates for Skull Face, Ocelot, Miller, and the Man on Fire.[4]

Five new sets of nameplates, featuring Huey, Eli, Third Child, Ishmael, and Code Talker, were unveiled during the May 10 update. Of them, only Huey, Code Talker, Third Child, and Ishmael so far have been released.[5]

Teaser images for the Event Point prizes implied that the nameplates would have cost 30000 Event Points,[6] although in the final version, they cost 800 EP. Something similar was also observed with the other prize items.

Message explaining error.

During the Skulls Attack Event period from September 20 to October 4, 2016, the description for the event erroneously claimed that the player can get Venom Snake nameplates. This was the result of a description error for the Online Information of the Event announcement. Konami later apologized for the error and intended to supply 100 MB Coins as compensation for the mistake after the next maintenance period on October 11.[7] The Online Information was later updated to state that anyone who got the appropriate rankings will get the Venom Snake nameplates as well as a further apology.[8][1]
