Gustava Heffner was a member of the StB (the Czech State Police) assigned to protect to Dr. Kio Marv during the Zanzibar Land incident in 1999.
Formerly a gold-medalist figure skater, she was known as the "fairy on ice." During the 80's, she met and fell in love with a westerner named Frank Hunter. She tried to elope with him, but she was denied U.S citizenship and failed to . Because of this, Gustava was stripped of her competition rights. With very few places left to turn, she joined the StB (the Czech international police), and she was assigned to be Dr. Kio Marv's bodyguard, when his plane was hijacked by soldiers from Zanzibar Land. Gustava was able to escape however, disguising herself as an enemy soldier.
She later met up with Solid Snake, who was currently carrying out Operation Intrude F014 and accompanied him for a brief while, helping him free Dr. Madnar from his cell. While the trio attempted to cross the suspension bridge (known as the Bridge of Sorrow) that led to the detention camp where Dr. Marv was being held, they were ambushed by Metal Gear D, where she was killed by a missile. Ironically, the man piloting Metal Gear was her former lover, Gray Fox, though he didn't know that she was his target at that time.
Before she died, she gave Snake the brooch shaped in the symbol of Zanzibar Land, which was secretly the key to Dr. Marv's locker where the OILIX formula was being held.

Gustava was originally named Natasha Marcova in the original MSX2 version of Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Her name was changed to Gustava when the game was ported to Mobile Phones in 2004 and it's the name currently used in the series' canon.
