Outer Haven

From the Metal Gear Wiki

Outer Haven's "Mt. Snakemore"

Outer Haven, an obvious reference to Outer Heaven which was the name of Big Boss's military nation, was a highly modified Arsenal Gear which was seized from The Patriots sometime after the Big Shell Incident, still housing the GW AI that Ocelot was able to piece back together and use for his own purposes. Along with its own set of mass-produced Metal Gear RAY units, Haven was fitted with a near endless supply of GEKKO, Dwarf Gekko, and FROGS, which Solid Snake, Raiden, Meryl Silverburgh and Johnny Sasaki had to deal with while infiltrating the mighty warship.

Snake also did battle with the final member of The Beauty and the Beast Unit, Screaming Mantis, in the central control center. The warship was also equipped with a railgun which Liquid took from the inoperable Metal Gear REX that was still located in the darkness of Shadow Moses Island. Liquid planned to use this to destroy a satellite containing JD, the main core of The Patriots four AI constructs, but his plot was ended prematurely when Solid Snake and Otacon inserted the FOXALIVE virus, written by Naomi Hunter and Sunny Gurlukovich, into the GW AI. The virus spread into all of the other AIs as well, effectively deactivating the Sons of the Patriots system and disarming Liquid's railgun. The virus shut down all Patriot-controlled aspects of society, allowing the United States to be run as a pure, untouched society for the first time since its creation.

After Outer Haven was disabled and every aspect of his growing army was destroyed, Liquid Ocelot encountered Snake on the deck of Haven, dragging his body to the tallest tower for one final fight. After a grueling fight where Revolver Ocelot's personality was finally revealed as not being under Liquid Snake's influence after all, Ocelot succumbed to the new, mutated strain of FOXDIE that was injected into Solid Snake by Drebin 893, and Outer Haven was presumably destroyed by the United Nations.

[edit] Behind the Scenes

  • As briefly seen as it is rising from the ocean, Outer Haven features a Mount Rushmore-esque sculpture at its helm, featuring (from left to right) Solidus Snake, Solid Snake, Liquid Snake and Big Boss. Its depiction of Solid Snake and Big Boss both resemble their MGS4 looks, while Liquid resembles his look when he was Liquid Snake and not Liquid Ocelot.
