Pablo Neruda (July 12, 1904 – September 23, 1973) was the pen and, later, legal name of the Chilean poet-diplomat Neftali Ricardo Reyes Basoalto. He was responsible for several poems, including Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair.

KGB agent Ramón Gálvez Mena briefly quoted Neruda on Central America being "Land as Slim as a Whip, Hot as Torture," when meeting with the private military company Militaires Sans Frontières for the first time in Colombia.[1]
