Plants (food)

From the Metal Gear Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

In Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, in order to survive and regain stamina, you must eat food. This article contains information about the edible plants in the game.

Plants can only be transformed into rations; they cannot be captured in your cages. Fruits and vine melons tend to hang from tree branches, and mushrooms tend to grow on the base of trees and on logs. Fruits and melons hanging from branches and vines usually need to be shot down. Mushrooms can be turned into rations by damaging them (with a punch, a kick, a knife, a grenade, and so on), as can fruits and vine melons that are already lying on the ground.

Contents

[edit] Baikal Scaly Tooth

  • Ration Name: MUSHROOM G
  • Initial Taste: Fairly Tasty
  • Stamina Recovery: Special (Scaly Cap Antidote)

Tastes pretty good for a mushroom and has a bonus healing feature. Joy! These can first be found in Dremuchij East on a log in the larger area, and are last found in Tikhogomyj.

[edit] Fly Agaric

  • Ration Name: MUSHROOM D
  • Initial Taste: Bad
  • Stamina Recovery: Low

Bad! Bad! This mushroom tastes bad, gives low stamina AND posions you! Only good for the EZ Gun collecting and for poisoning The Fear and (if you must) various guards. Other than that, avoid at all costs. These are only found in Graniny Gorki South (where they can be very useful against The Fear) and in Tikhogomyj (where they might help against the Ocelot Unit if you forgot to remove the transmitter).

[edit] Golova

  • Ration Name: FRUIT C
  • Initial Taste: Tasty
  • Stamina Recovery: Moderate

A fruit, obviously found in trees. It tastes good, like most fruit and give a decent stamina increase. You can probably head out to your nearest grocery store and buy a mango, all you cosplayers out there. These are first found in Dremuchij Swampland (both on the tree branch and on the ground), and are last found in Zaozyorje North (ditto).

[edit] Russian False Mango

  • Ration Name: FRUIT B
  • Initial Taste: Tasty
  • Stamina Recovery: Moderate

It's like a mango, but it isn't, as its name suggests. It's a good fruit to carry around, especially since it doesn't rot easily. It gives a fair bit of stamina too. These are first found in Dremuchij South and are last found in Zaozyorje South.

[edit] Russian Glowcap

  • Ration Name: MUSHROOM E
  • Initial Taste: Fairly Tasty
  • Stamina Recovery: Special (Recharges battery!)

This is an odd one. A mushroom that glows in the dark and recharges your battery. Contact Para-medic after eating one for the first time, for a very humourous conversation. These are first found in Chyomaya Peschera Cave Branch (and are very obviously visible here, as their glow-in-the-dark quality makes them the only natural source of light), and are last found in Tikhogomyj: Behind Waterfall. If you throw one on the ground during the one-on-one fight with Colonel Volgin, it will absorb one of his lightning bolts... sometimes. The only place to find these before that fight is in Tikhogomyj: Behind Waterfall.

[edit] Russian Oyster Mushroom

  • Ration Name: MUSHROOM A
  • Initial Taste: Bad
  • Stamina Recovery: Low

Can be found at logs, or tree trunks. It maintains a black appearance. It does not taste too good, but does quite a bit of stamina recovery for its size. One of these is in Dremuchij South, on the log to your left at the start of the Virtuous Mission. Another is in Dremuchij East, on a log in the middle of the larger area. The last can be found on a log in Sokrovenno South.

[edit] Siberian Ink Cap

  • Ration Name: MUSHROOM C
  • Initial Taste: Bad
  • Stamina Recovery: Low

The cousin of the Russian Oyster Mushroom, it can be found on logs and tree trunks as well, but it tastes slightly better. It is by far the most common mushroom, and is one of the most common food items in the game - not that that does you much good. It is first found in Dremuchij South, and is last found in Zaozyorje North.

[edit] Spatsa

  • Ration Name: MUSHROOM F
  • Initial Taste: Fairly Tasty
  • Stamina Recovery: Special (Puts eater to sleep)

Need a nap? Take one of these. Snake will heal some stamina, since he is really not moving and is regenerating stamina. Although, you should be warned; do not eat one around a guard. Snake will snore, guard gets alerted, Snake dies in sleep. Get it? Use on Eva for fun. Good fun ;) These also give you ammo for the knockout handkerchief. These can be found in Graniny Gorki Lab 1F (at the base of the tree in the "garden"), Svyatogornyj South, and Sokrovenno West.

[edit] Ural Luminescent

  • Ration Name: MUSHROOM B
  • Initial Taste: Bad
  • Stamina Recovery: Low

Despite what the name suggests, it doesn't glow in the dark, and it won't recharge your batteries. It actually poisons you. Have fun. These are only found in Svyatogornyj West near the quicksand patch, and are difficult to spot without using thermal goggles. They can be difficult to discern from the other mushrooms.

[edit] Vine Melon

  • Ration Name: VEGETABLE
  • Initial Taste: Fairly Tasty
  • Stamina Recovery: Moderate

A large plant that snake can eat. It's a melon, so naturally, it will taste good. It gives some good stamina too, so it's worth hunting for. These are first found in Svyatogornyj South, where they hang over the start of the upwards incline, and are last found in Tikhogomyj.

[edit] Yabloko Moloko

  • Ration Name: FRUIT A
  • Initial Taste: Bad
  • Stamina Recovery: Minimal

The other common fruit in the game, this one is nothing like the more plentiful Golova. The only similarity it has to the Golova is that they're round. And are fruits. Not worth the ammo to knock down. They are first found in Dremuchij North, and last appear in Sokrovenno North.
