PlayStation Vita

The PlayStation Vita (officially abbreviated PS Vita or Vita) is a handheld game console manufactured and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is the successor of the PlayStation Portable. Development of the console was first announced on January 27, 2011, and it was unveiled on June 6, 2011 at a Sony press conference before E3 2011. The system's development ended up delayed due to the 2011 Earthquakes in Japan, although it was back on track by late 2011, and was released in Japan on December 17, 2011, in North America on February 22, 2012 (although limited first-edition copies were earlier released on February 15 that same year), and in the PAL region on the same release date as America, plus varying release dates depending on the country.

The PS Vita included interactive touch-based screens.

Relation to the Metal Gear series[]

Although there were no Metal Gear games that debuted on the Vita, the console did feature ports in the form of the HD Collection as well as digital re-releases of the PlayStation Portable games Peace Walker, Portable Ops, and Portable Ops Plus on the PlayStation Store. In addition, Kojima had implied during development that he planned to release Metal Gear Solid V onto the Vita as well as the PlayStation 3.[1]
