Sergei Gurlukovich (セルゲイ・ゴルルコビッチ Serugei Gorurukobitchi?) was born and raised in Snezhinsk (Chelyabinsk-70). The former head of the Spetznaz GRU (Russian Army Special Forces), Col. Sergei Gurlukovich became the leader of the Gurlukovich Mercenaries, a heavily armed group of former Russian Spetznaz GRU soldiers. During the Cold War, Sergei met Revolver Ocelot while they were serving in the Spetznaz GRU.
With the end of the Soviet Union, Gurlukovich brought together former Russian soldiers who had nowhere left to go, forming a mercenary army of at least a thousand strong. Carrying an utmost sense of patriotism to his country, Gurlukovich's ultimate ambitions were to restore Mother Russia to her former glory. Sometime before Shadow Moses, Sergei talked with Liquid Snake via Ocelot with the intention of joining in on Liquid's uprising.
Hungry for the power that Metal Gear REX would offer him, Gurlukovich gave a Hind-D gunship to Liquid as a down payment for data on the REX project. Liquid however, disliked Gurlukovich, calling him more of a politician than a warrior. In addition, Liquid arranged for Gurlukovich's troops to ally themselves with the Genome Army, but this plan was ruined when Solid Snake destroyed REX. In essence, it is probable that the alliance would have never even lasted long if it really occured since Liquid and Sergei had very different aims.
Two years later, Gurlukovich heard word about a new Metal Gear being scheduled for transport via the Hudson River. On August 8th, 2007 his troops seized the oil tanker which was transporting the Metal Gear, with Gurlukovich personally joining the mission along with his daughter Olga Gurlukovich and Ocelot. Gurlukovich appears in the last holds with Metal Gear RAY inside though is surprised to find out that Ocelot had different intentions with RAY, much to Sergei's anger. After noticing Ocelot's true allegiance, Sergei attempts to shoot Ocelot; however, Ocelot shoots and kills Gurlukovich and Marine Commander Scott Dolph. His men are then wiped out as RAY proceeds to destroy the tanker and the Marines.
