Surveillance Cameras

From the Metal Gear Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Surveillance Cameras are used to monitor activity within buildings. If Snake gets spotted by a camera it can set off an alert and an attack team will be called in to investigate. Cameras have a blind spot directly underneath them that snake can hide in if he is pressed against the wall. Using chaff will disable cameras in the area for a short period of time. From Metal Gear Solid 2 onward, the player has the ability to shoot out cameras by going into first person view. Only live ammunition will disable the camera; tranquilizer rounds have no effect on cameras or other mechanical devices. Passing through a camera's field of vision will not cause an alert if the player is successfully disguised as an enemy or is using Stealth Camouflage.

Another type of camera with a machine gun mounted on it will fire on Snake if it sees him. They are usually automatically controlled and will not summon an attack squad if one spots Snake.

[edit] Trivia

  • In 2D Metal Gear games, cameras could not be avoided by simply walking under them. The only chance Snake has for evasion is to hide behind a wall or equip the cardboard box before it moved over him.
