Now, I would love to know a source for this, because, while I'm aware of 1911's being used (mostly by special ops), this little blurb makes it sound like the M9 is almost universally snubbed in favor of the 'forty-five'. So, this presents a couple of questions, namely, how these 'many combat troops' are getting ammunition, and how they are getting away with carrying a non-issue weapon on an offical battleground (holsters, magazines, etc., would be visible).
A further question would be if the 1911 is doing so well in The Sand, then why did Delta, a Unit known for its use of 1911 pistols, swap out to .40-calibre GLOCKs, supposedly citing them as more reliable in the sandy environment? 70.64.0.118 06:43, November 11, 2011 (UTC)Orca*
