The Fury appears in the game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. He was the "Flame Soldier" of the Cobra Unit.

The Fury was a member of the Cobra Unit during World War II. After the war, when the Cobra unit was dismantled, he returned to Russia. There, he was sent into outer space on a Cosmonaut flight where an accident occurred. Upon his re-entering the Earth's atmosphere, he suffered severe burns all over his body, which left him unable to feel any pain. While he was being burned, he saw the Earth obscured by the wall of fire. That caused him to be obsessed with a vision of the Earth in flames, as well as his development of pyromaniacal tendencies. It is unknown what his special skill was during his time with the Cobra Unit in WWII, however it can be assumed that even pre-accident, his special skill was wielding flamethrowers.

As with the rest of the Cobra Unit, his codename reflects the specific emotion he portrays while on the battlefield. He feels unrelenting fury towards the world and everything else while he is fighting.

He wore a fireproof Soviet space suit, equipped with a jetpack and wielded a powerful flamethrower. Unlike most flamethrowers, he used liquid rocket fuel that continued to burn long after it had been set ablaze.

En route to Groznyj Grad, the massive military fortress established by Colonel Volgin of GRU, Naked Snake encountered The Fury in an underground cave. The Fury almost immediately took the offensive, firing his flamethrower wildly into the air and killing the many bats that dwelled on the ceiling of the tunnels. After a grueling battle of flames and darkness, Snake eventually was able to rip The Fury's flame retardant suit and defeat him. The heavily injured and horribly burnt soldier activated his jet pack, launching himself into the roof at high speed - believing that he was "coming home". He was killed on impact. When he died, two heads made out of fire came down from the roof and chased Snake around. One of the heads tried to chase him through the exit, but collided with the doorway, thereby stopping Snake from escaping from Groznyj Grad.

• Naked Snake was able to defeat The Fury and his flamethrower relatively unscathed, yet later in life as Big Boss he would find himself being defeated by his own son Solid Snake who had managed to piece together a very basic flamethrower from a lighter and a aerosol can.

• The voice actor for The Fury, Richard Doyle, also does the voice of Big Boss in MGS4.
