When you're talking about "surpassing Metal Gear", you're talking about what Metal Gear does, not what it is. Metal Gear doesn't surpass the Shagohod because it has legs; it surpasses the Shagohod because it doesn't need a runway to launch nukes. It's a better strategic weapon. A weapon that surpasses Metal Gear would likewise have to be a better strategic weapon than Metal Gear; if the weapon's chief characteristic is flight, then flight would need to make it better in some way at exerting strategic power than the usual nuclear-equipped walking tank capable of operating solo. For example, flight might allow it to change location quickly after launching a missile, escaping retaliation (fuelling would be a huge problem, however, and a submarine would probably be better at hiding and escaping).
That's not quite how I had envisioned it. I was talking like, something high in the sky that wouldn't be able to be retaliated against, because no one would know where it was. It'd be large and constantly flying, like the SHIELD helicarriers from the Marvel movies, excpect maybe a little bigger. What I was trying to get at earlier was that, by definition, my idea wasn't just simply "another Metal Gear."
It'd surpass Metal Gear by getting rid of any possibility of engagment and retalitation. Zero could go, "Oh, Dubai didn't like this? Nuked." and no one would know. It could just fly over a country drop a nuke and leave. (Although that's not exactly what I'm talking about either, but there's an example of what it could do.) Making it perfect of nuclear deterence and a more hostile way of asserting total control. It's not a bit realistic but we're talking about Metal Gear here. Not to mention say that I'm some how predicting the future and this is what they wanted to do it wouldn't exacly matter how it was executed, because it'd probably be something Big Boss stops before it even gets into a certain stage in production, something of that size anyway. We also have to keep in mind the key phrase "missing piece" which could mean anything really.
I don't see why you felt that you had to shit all over my idea though.
