Hey all, me again with something new to talk about after some thinking.
We all know that RACE/REVENGE are the main themes of The Phantom Pain with loss and pain being some more. After upgrading to a PS4 and playing Ground Zeroes ad nauseum and seeing the preview for TPP, I've got some questions. This is also supported by my recent re-re-rewatching of the E3 2014 trailer.
My question is this - Is The Phantom Pain's theme of revenge really about the fall of Mother Base?
I know what you're thinking, it's a kind of stupid question, but bear with me. In 1975, Boss rescues Chico and Paz and after rescuing Kaz from Mother Base, he gets in to a chopper crash and then his famous coma. Boss wakes up 9 nears later, in a so far unknown hospital and with the help of Ishmael and Ocelot he escapes to resume his position at the head of a private army.
So then he falls in to his evil ways because of what happened in '75? I know it probably felt like yesterday for Boss, but it was 9 years later and world would have passed him by in a big way. I guess I just find it difficult to believe that he'd be so distraught over the whole thing when he didn't seem particularly close with anyone but Kaz. Aside from that, Kaz seemed to be the one who wanted the private army, Boss always struck me as though he could take it or leave it. I guess it's because we haven't seen Boss seek revenge before, but it's hard to imagine he'd harbour such a grudge for me. If I'm missing something, please, educate me, I'm happy to read.
Also, side question - They seriously kept the ashes of the staff of Mother Base on "ice" for 9 years? That's a little weird.
Please guys, comment with your thoughts. Help a guy out.
