  • Was it Ocelot or was it Liquid? I mean to say, was Ocelot supposed to be the bad guy we're fighting? I mean Ocelot from the previous games that eventually tried to achieve the same goals as Big Boss and not Liquid, who also sort of tried to do the same thing. I get that Ocelot tried to implant Liquid's personality onto his own but was that because he was just trying to fool the patriots or was he sort of trying to make Liquid him? I guess this is super confusion but I just wanted to be clear. Was Ocelot always planning on doing this?

    • Ocelot lost his arm in MGS. Sometime between the Shadow Moses Incident and the Tanker Chapter in MGS 2, Ocelot had Liquid's arm grafted onto his body. Throughout MGS2, Ocelot's body was "taken over" by Liquid through his arm (not sure if specifics were explained). Finally, at the end of MGS2, Liquid took control of Ocelot completely, so in MGS4, Liquid is the bad guy. He's just using Ocelot's body as a vessel. Really, I guess Ocelot and Liquid wanted to achieve the same things as Big Boss; freedom from the control of the Patriots, but it is Liquid's mind in Ocelot's body.

    • I still don't get how he could get possessed by an arm but I guess in this case the old "Nanomachines son" explanation may actually fit

    • By the events of Metal Gear Solid 4, Ocelot no longer has Liquid's arm anyway.

If I remember correctly, while it started out that Liquid's persona was taking over Ocelot's, he also deliberately furthered the process by self-hypnosis. I honestly can't remember why he did that, but it started out as Liquid actually possessing Ocelot. By 2014, Ocelot had convinced himself that he was Liquid but Liquid's true persona had disappeared along with his arm.

    • You can read it however you like really. Screaming Mantis had the personality of Psycho Mantis implanted into her psyche through similar means... yet it appears the literal "ghost" of Psycho Mantis also exercised control over her. In the end, there really is no difference whether Ocelot was pretending to be Liquid or actually was Liquid, the only important thing is that he believed he was Liquid and thus, both are "the bad guy." In the words of Basil Exposition, "I suggest you don't worry about this sort of thing and... just enjoy yourself!"

He definitely still has his arm. Not sure where your info is coming from.

My info comes from having completed Metal Gear Solid 4, where he very clearly has a robotic arm in the final boss fight. As you can see in this render based off his appearance in MGS4 (which is on the Liquid Ocelot wiki page by the way), no physical sign of Liquid Snake remains.

Oh, and this; In one of the entries for the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database, it mentioned that Ocelot removed Liquid's arm and replaced it with a prosthetic in an attempt to restore balance to his psyche.
