From the Metal Gear Wiki

Because the wiki is based on a very heavily story orientated game the decision was made that the pages should be written with an "In-Universe" style. This then differentiates us from Wikipedia and enables users to understand the story better.

Having an in-universe style to the articles means that there are some guidelines that the articles should adhere to. These guidelines are different for the different styles of articles, such as characters and games. These can be found below.

Contents

[edit] General Tips

When writing an article in an in-universe perspective there a some guidelines you should follow.

  • Do not mention the games.
This obviously isn't applicable to the game pages themselves, apart from the Story section.
  • Do not mention Konami, or any employees of them in the main text. This includes voice actors.
There are templates and other areas of the pages to put this information in.

[edit] Characters

[edit] Introduction

The introduction to a character page should contain the characters name with a small description of the character with a detail about an important event for the character. This should be like biography articles on wikipedia. A good example to look at is on the Solid Snake article

[edit] Biography

Each character page should contain a biography heading. This should be a size 2 heading, i.e. ==Biography==.

From here the appropriate headings should be used for the different games. These headings are available as templates and are encouraged to be used, as this keeps things consistent around the site. The templates can be found in the Event Headings category. Any other events should be appropriately named. Any information about childhood should be under the heading ===Early Years===.

[edit] Unavoidable "Out of Universe" Information

Many of the characters will, of course, have information about them that is relevant to them, but is from our perspective, such as reasons for their names, etc. This information obviously cannot be edited to be in-universe, so all information such as this, including trivia, should be under the heading ==Behind the Scenes==

[edit] Found a Non In-Universe Article

If you find a Non in-universe article you have 2 options. You can either edit the article yourself or you can let the community know that it needs to be edited if you feel that you don't know enough information about the subject matter. Should you want to tell the community, you should add the Universe template to the top of the page by putting {{universe}} in the text. This put the following template on the page

In-Universe Cleanup
This article needs to be changed to an In-Universe perspective. See In-Universe Help for more information.
