Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is an upcoming game in the Metal Gear series. Originally announced at E3 2009 under the title Metal Gear Solid: Rising. The game is being developed by Platinum Games, with Kojima playing a close role in the development process. More of a side-story to the Metal Gear Solid series, the game will star Raiden and will be set four years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
The game is set to feature a focus on action, sword-based gameplay. While the game will retain a lot of elements of the famed series, we're bound to see some exciting new additions. Are their any features or qualities about the game you wish to see? Let us know in the comments. Here are a few of mine.
1. Stealth Elements
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance features the return of Raiden as a playable character. Set four years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4. The game features a greater focus on high action gameplay, with Raiden fighting waves of cyborgs with a variety of hi-tech weapons. The game will not feature the familiar stealth gameplay theMetal Gear Solid titles offer, but I hope that stealth isn't removed completely! I'd love to be able to pull off stealth kills with Raiden, and have to deal with the stresses of remaining undetected.
2. Boss Group
Fans of the Metal Gear series know just how great the boss battles are. Not only are their encounters well thought out and entertaining, but the complex nature of the villans can usually lead to asking a lot of questions. Each game in the Metal Gear Solid series features an array of elite villains, formed together in a single squad that the player completely dispatching of. Here's hoping that Revengeance will include a squad of insane and deadly villains for Raiden to take down.
3. Return of Characters
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will mark the for a few characters in the Metal Gear timeline. Besides Raiden returning as a main character, the game will include the appearance of Solidus Snake as well as the daughter of Olga Gurlukovich, Sunny. Other characters from the series have not been confirmed, but it would be great to see either full appearances, or easter egg pop-ins, of other big characters from the series. Otacon and Snake are some of my favorite characters in gaming, and seeing them again in this sidestory would be a pleasant surprise.
4. Weapon Variety
With Revengeance's newfound focus on action, and Raiden's affinity towards his katana, it'll be interesting to see how the game approaches a variety of weapons. Kojima has stated that the game will focus on a 'cutting feels good' mentality and that the focus of swordplay will outweigh the importance of guns on the player end. But does that means that all guns will be out for Raiden? It's hard to be sure of at this point, but I would love to see a select handful of ranged weapons for Raiden. I know this game is more of a sidestory, but experiencing some classic Metal Gear gameplay is a big wish of mine.
