This article is about a subject from outside Hideo Kojima's core "Metal Gear Saga." Its canonicity within the continuity is disputed, therefore reader discretion is advised.[?]

The Winds of Destruction was a unit of three captains of Desperado Enforcement LLC. that had been shaped by the effects of wars and as a result, had a desire for chaos and destruction and were vicious killers. The members consisted of Mistral, Monsoon, and the de facto leader of Desperado and the Winds, Sundowner. Their codenames were all wind themed, and also fit with either their birthplace and heritage (eg, Mistral, Monsoon, and Samuel Rodrigues) or related to some act they committed during battle or a particular warzone (eg, Sundowner and Khamsin). Their aim was to put PMCs in demand and as a result, restart the war economy.

Members[]

  • Sundowner - De facto leader, known as the Californian Wild Fire.
  • Mistral - Captain, known as the Cold Wind of France.
  • Monsoon - Captain, known as the Wind of Southeast Asia.

The winds were also affiliated with other mercenaries, possessing similarly themed nicknames:

  • Samuel Rodrigues - Mercenary, known as the Cool Brazilian Wind (also known as Minuano).
  • Khamsin - Mercenary, known as the Desert Storm.

History[]

All three members and Sam were killed by Maverick cyborg Raiden and Khamsin was killed by Blade Wolf. After Steven Armstrong was killed by Raiden, Desperado and the Winds were no more. While all the members were killed and Desperado was out of business, their fellow PMC World Marshal still remained in business and their plan to boom the war economy was accomplished. All the members referred to Raiden by his real name, Jack (or in some cases, his child soldier nickname of Jack the Ripper).

Behind the scenes[]

The Winds of Destruction (破壊を呼ぶ風 Hakai wo Yobu Kaze?) (lit. "Winds that call for destruction") appear as bosses in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

All three main members die ironic deaths relating to their namesakes: Mistral is frozen solid before being cut down, Monsoon dies in a rainstorm, and Sundowner is launched towards Raiden by a fiery explosion.
